The Story of Eeyore & Roo

Eeyore & Roo’s Story

On the 19th of January 2025, two tiny, abandoned puppies found themselves at the beginning of an uncertain journey. Eeyore and Roo, estimated to be around four months old, were discovered huddled together under a bush in freezing temperatures. Alone, frightened, and neglected, they were taken to the local stray kennels, where they served their statutory seven days, waiting for someone to give them a second chance. That chance came when Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue stepped in.

The puppies were placed into the safety of foster care, where they would receive warmth, love, and the expert veterinary care they so desperately needed. Malnourished and suffering from mange, they had clearly endured hardship in their short lives. But their fight was far from over.

Just days later, on Wednesday, the 22nd of January, their foster carers rushed them to the emergency vets. The devastating diagnosis: Parvovirus. A highly contagious and often deadly disease, parvo left Roo and Eeyore in critical condition. For days, it was touch and go. The rescue team, their foster carers, and the veterinary staff at Donaldson’s Animal Hospital watched over them anxiously, willing them to pull through.

Then, against all odds, these brave little souls began to fight back. Slowly but surely, they started to show signs of improvement. They began eating, playing, and showing their sweet, resilient spirits once more. Though still under veterinary care due to low white blood cell counts, they were on the mend. Each day brought them closer to the moment when they could finally return to their foster home, where they were eagerly awaited with open arms.

The incredible team at Donaldson’s, who had poured their hearts into Roo and Eeyore’s recovery, shared a heartwarming video of the pups—happy, alert, and wagging their tiny tails. It was a moment that brought more than a few tears to those who had feared the worst just days before.

These puppies have already faced so much in their short lives—abandonment, bitter cold, illness—but they have proven to be fighters. Alongside their battle with parvo, they continue treatment for mange and will require further dental care once they are strong enough. Yet, thanks to the care and dedication of everyone involved, their future is looking brighter than ever.

Eeyore and Roo’s story is one of resilience, love, and the power of second chances. They are living proof of what can be achieved when compassion and dedication come together. Their journey is not over, but with the support of Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue and their wonderful foster family, they are on their way to the happy, healthy lives they deserve.
